YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties has decided to stop participating in the SilverSneakers® fitness program beginning January 2017. This announcement was unexpected, and active conversation is taking place with the YMCA in the hope that they will stay in the network for 2017.
We’ve sent a letter to Group Health Medicare Advantage plan members who might be impacted by this change, which included fitness options. Our mutual clients might come to you for information, so here are fitness options for members as of Jan. 1 if the YMCA does leave the network:
- Other SilverSneakers classes
SilverSneakers has 30 locations in Pierce and Kitsap counties and is working on expanding their network in these areas. A location search is available on the SilverSneakers website.
- Other SilverSneakers benefits
SilverSneakers offers more than classes. Members can tap into their benefit to access other gyms and fitness locations to try out different group classes or fitness amenities, such as pools.
- Continue at the YMCA
To ease the transition process, the YMCA has established a transitional membership rate of $44 per month for current Group Health SilverSneakers members who sign up through Dec. 31, 2017. This rate will be honored for up to three years and will expire on Dec. 31, 2019. The YMCA is offering financial assistance to ensure that our members can continue their YMCA access. For more information, members can call the YMCA at 253-534-4715.
If the YMCA alters course and chooses to stay in the network, we will send members another letter to inform them.
We know how important YMCA access is to many of your clients, and we’re committed to providing convenient access to health and fitness opportunities. If your clients need help finding programs to stay active, please have them call Customer Service at 1-888-901-4600 (TTY 1-800-833-6388).
